the 1, 2 and 3 of a handmade wedding…
1. the dress

for 6 WHOLE years i managed to stay off etsy until michael proposed last august … then the hunt for a fabulous dress was on!!
i started looking locally but when i chanced upon this listing i knew that was the one… but in red and fuchsia!
the ladies at KMK could not have been nicer!
70 messages passed between us where i was offered choices on ribbon, embroidery designs, grommets, gauntlet colour, dress length, optional straps… all to combine the elements of my dream dress.
sending measurements via the internet to have a dress made to measure on the other side of the planet (- especially where a corset was involved) felt really daunting, but i can’t speak of this outcome more highly!
2. the venue

we live on one acre in the hills, so the garden seemed the obvious choice… well, then you start to look around and see every weed and crack and watch the grass turn to dust with a month of no rain… but, you can just stumble into bed at 5am, lol
i wanted as much as possible to be handmade.
nadia my wonderful staff member of 4.5 years started making the paper flowers during the quiet times at the shop and we recycled the handmade bunting from a trade fair.
flowers were bought from a local grocer as were all the fabrics, ribbon and the doggie tutu’s i made from a pair of $3.00 best and less big girl’s knikkers.
3. the cake

personally, i’m not a huge fan of the old wedding cake, red and fuchsia cupcakes felt like a lot more fun and cupcakes are the new black made us the most divine sparkly ones!
4. the music

we fell in love with a klezmer band called LARK at a local festival, they jumped in and saved the day when our ‘down the isle’ music stopped!
5. embellishments and decorating…

it helps to have a best friend who owns a scrap booking business fly in and help and neighbours who built us a stage for the band!
it helps to have photographers who you know personally and who understand your style
it helps to have an AMAZING jeweller as a partner !! <3

it helps to have 2 amazing step children who helped build the arbour, clear the garden and help drink the beer

there were many lists to tick, vows to write and a wonderful celebrant to work with who was willing to say these words;
“marriage, according to law in australia, is the union of a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life. however – isy and michael and myself for that matter hope that someday soon the opportunity to marry will be open to all couples regardless of their gender of preferences”

thank you again carli & glen barnaby & wilson photograhpy for the amazing photos!!

happy valentines <3 xx
