tell us about your background
Like most people, I was introduced to crochet by my grandmother for which I am very thankful, it is my happy place. Spinning is a natural follow-on from crochet and creating textured yarn is becoming one of my favourite things to do.
tell us about what you create
I make beanies and things in the most awesome yarns, some of which I have spun myself. Iced VoVo items are something that I originally made for my own amusement but found that it wasn’t only me that had fond or funny memories of them from my childhood.
what made you start making your pieces?
I attended a few markets with my sister who was new to Brisbane and a little nervous about selling her wares by herself, in doing so I found that people actually liked what I’d made and were willing to buy from me. It was a wonderful surprise that kicked off a passion.
What is your inspiration/influences?
Fibre, texture and colour plus the fibre artists from around Australia and the world who kindly share their knowledge and skills on the internet. They have taught me to not be afraid to try something new and mistakes can sometimes become your greatest achievement.
What materials do you use?
I love natural fibres and Australian wool is my first choice although I have used Angora, Alpaca, Silk, Possum, Cotton, Camel and many others.
tell us about your creative process?
When making a beanie I often just select a yarn that appeals to me then start, it tells me what shape it wants to be as I progress. I like to freestyle everything that I make.
why did you choose in.cube8r?
A fellow yarnster I know has been with in.cube8r for some time and has so many lovely things to say about her experience. She was right, everyone is lovely.
