tell us about your background

High school, University, lots of travel.  Worked overseas for about a decade.  That was all BC (before children).
Now the next phase of my life.  Children and a bit more creativity.

tell us about what you create

All my creations are made from up cycling vintage pieces.  From vintage tea cups and glass ware to vintage china & vinyl plates.  The tea cups and bowls are turned into containers for soy wax candles.  The beautiful vintage plates are turned into tiered cake or trinket stands.  Old vinyl record stands are also turned into cake stands.  More recently I’ve started creating necklaces made from vintage china ornaments.

what made you start making your pieces?

I have a preference for Vintage items and think it’s lovely to breath new life into them.  It’s also very kind to the environment.  It’s also a lot of fun to scour op shops and antique shops looking for the right pieces either to make a beautiful candle or stunning cake stand.  I also wanted to find a hobby /home based business that would fit around young children.

What is your inspiration/influences?

Using existing resources e.g. vintage items, soy wax (which is a by product of the soy bean).  The majority of the things I create are upcycling vintage pieces.

What materials do you use?

Vintage china, glass ware, vinyl records, soy wax, odds and ends I find in my travels.

tell us about your creative process?

Get the kids off to school then decide on the project for the day – sometimes I have a few on the go.  It might be putting together a few plans on new cake stands, sourcing plates/ tea cups, finding a missing piece that I know will go with something I found months back. Putting the kettle on for a cuppa and some extra to start melting the soy wax, whilst putting together some new necklace.  It’s quite fun as I can work on a few different things at once.

why did you choose in.cube8r?

I actually stumbled across it when I was doing a google search on local markets and places that designers could feature thier work.  It appealed to me as I don’t have the time to do markets every weekend.  I also had looked into having my products taken by consignment.  It wasn’t a very appealing proposition.  However, in.cube8r sounded like a great opportunity to showcase your work without selling your soul.

anything else you would like to add?

What is old is new again.
Even me – as I no longer have to go back to an office :)

where else can we find you?
