Jewellery by Kristine

tell us about your background

I grew up in the country surrounded by rolling fields, smelly cows, boys and kangaroos. On the farm my Mum was always cooking, sewing and knitting, so I spent a lot to time watching her and sometimes helping with her creative pursuits. She says she doesn’t know where I got my creativity/talent from, but it was all her!
Now days I play with numbers by day in the desk job and at nights and on the weekend you can find me making “things” – cushions, sketches, jewellery and the like.

tell us about what you create

Other than a mess in my workshop I create unique silver jewellery from a product called Precious Metal Clay.

what made you start making your pieces?

About 9 years ago after coming home from a working holiday in London, I started making beaded jewellery to fill a creative gap in my daily grind. A few years later beads turned to Precious Metal Clay, a love affair grew and jewellery by Kristine was born.

What is your inspiration/influences?

My inspiration comes from the clay. I sit at my workbench, work the clay, there’s a martian-like mind meld and BaM! New pieces are created. Seriously though, I get inspiration from everywhere, graphic images in magazines, squiggles on my notebook and from the clay itself. I find that some of my best work is completely unplanned and just happens – this is what I love about what I do.

What materials do you use?

The items stocked at in.cube8r are made from Precious Metal Clay, which when fired in my trusty jewellery kiln becomes Fine Silver (99.9% pure silver). All findings and chains are sterling silver and come from a couple of Australian suppliers, one of which uses recycled silver in their manufacturing process.

why did you choose in.cube8r?

I first heard about in.cube8r a number of years ago and the concept excited me. How fabulous to have a space to show and your wears, get 100% of the sales and be in control of what is in your space. At the time I was selling viaetsy.com and madeit.com.au. I always wanted a retail outlet for my jewellery so applied but it took 18 months to get my space – just goes to show how popular it is. Now I’m in, I’m never going to leave!

where else can we find you?

My jewellery is currently exclusively stocked at incube8r in the Valley.
